Peter Kotschedoff is a principal at Versatax Consulting and has over 27 years of experience in all phases of real and personal property assessment, including appeals board representation/testimony, appraisal, possessory interests and tax exemptions. His consulting experience includes airline, biopharmaceutical, communications, department store, energy, high-tech/R&D, hospital, hotel, manufacturing, office campus, refinery, retail shopping center, space ship, stadium, theater, theme park and other special use properties. He has also been active with the California legislature in the creation of new law relative to property tax and other industries.
Prior to founding Versatax, Peter spent 6 years with Duff & Phelps as a Managing Director in charge of the California property tax practice and 10 years with Deloitte Tax, as a Senior Manager in the complex property tax group. Prior to Deloitte, Peter was an Appraiser with the Los Angeles County Office of the Assessor, where he appraised multiple property types as well as co-designed the Automated Assessment Appeals computer software program used at the time by Los Angeles County for appraisal and case preparation during the appeals process.
Peter has been published in the Orange County Business Journal, quoted in the Wall Street Journal and has authored papers for the Institute for Professionals in Taxation. He frequently presents property tax issues to various organizations, including the Tax Executive Institute, Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT), Wichita State University conference on Appraisal for Ad Valorem Taxation, International Association of Assessing Officers, International Property Tax Institute, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, California Assessor’s Association, California Alliance of Taxpayer Advocates, Los Angeles County Bar Association, Orange County Bar Association and the Society of Auditor Appraisers.
Peter received his B.A. in business administration and real estate finance from California State University, Fullerton. He is a certified general real estate appraiser in California, formerly a licensed real estate broker in California, holds the CMI designation from IPT and was previously certified as an appraiser for property tax purposes by the California State Board of Equalization.
Peter is a past President, current Board member and chair of the standards committee for the California Alliance of Taxpayer Advocates, is a member of IPT, the Broadband Tax Institute and Society of Auditor Appraisers. Peter has also served as an in-house training instructor for the Los Angeles County Office of the Assessor, Deloitte Tax and Duff & Phelps.
